It seems the golf ball marker today is something that golfers take for granted. What a lot of serious golfers do not realize is that golf ball markers were not always around to aid golfers on the greens.

In fact, a ball would land right in front of the line of fire of another player, yet they could not move the ball even though it was an obstruction. Obviously this is something that can completely ruin a game and lose a player serious ground on an opponent.

Eventually, the governing bodies of golf realized that this method was simply not going to work, so they had to come up with some kind of a solution. Eventually, the decision was made, from that point onwards, players were able to move other player’s balls and put them back after they have taken their shot. There was a slight problem though; where exactly was the ball placed, and what if the opponent disagreed?

Obviously this became a huge problem in golf and the golf ball marker was eventually introduced on a full scale. In the early stages, the markers were simple things such as coins or even pieces of paper. Soon there became a need for a professional product that was directly related to golf to ensure that there were no arguments.

The golf ball markers of today are not much different to those that were used back then. In fact, the majority of these ball markers are made from either plastic or metal. They can have a spike on the underside which enables them to be pressed firmly into the ground. This is in an effort to ensure that there is minimal disruption to a singular shot.

What clubs and companies related to golf noticed straight away was that there was a market for custom or personalized golf ball markers. The flat space on the top could be filled with a company name or logo and they were soon products that were being used for corporate branding. Nowadays there are hundreds of different brands producing these golf ball markers in all shapes and sizes.

One type of premium golf ball marker available are the ones that are made from cast. Generally they will have a logo or they might even have writing in the metal. These are usually personalized and they are generally of a much greater cost to the consumer.
